It is a fact that everyone will worry at some time in their life. Worry over money, work, family, pets, your car’s MOT! There are so many things that can make you worry and the effects are usually disastrous causing you sleepless nights which inevitable make you worry even more.
It doesn’t have to be this way!
Worry comes from over thinking something and not taking action on it. If you continue to think about something (you know how it goes!) a small thing can grow and morph into the biggest thing in the universe as you add and add and add and add and add to it! You even begin to play out conversations in your head, which is never a good thing (you are not a mind reader!) and you begin to at differently towards that person based on your own internal dialogue that you had with them. Sound familiar?
The way that you can free yourself from worry is, firstly, to recognise that you are actually worrying and concerned about something. Being aware that something s affecting you means that you can begin to acknowledge it and start the process to remove the strain from your life.
Say you are worrying about money, that you won’t be able to pay the bills next month. What could you do to banish this worry from your mind? You could get a loan, you could find some part-time work, you could sell some of your old possessions… there are quite a few things that you could do and I am sure you could think of more. Remember, you do need to take action on the things that you choose so make sure that they are realistic and something that you are comfortable doing.
Think of it the other way. If you are worrying about money and do absolutely nothing, what will happen? You won’t be able to pay the bills, and more trouble is sure to follow with overdraft fees, late payment fees etc, just making the problem worse. You don’t want to worry for longer than necessary do you?
Once you have a plan of action, you can get working on making it happen. Knowing that you are doing something to tackle the problem will help you sleep, feel easier and give you the drive to progress towards dealing with the issue.
When it comes to family, pets and friends you will need to take action differently. For example if I am worrying about one of my cats being off colour, I take them to the vets to make sure that they are OK or receive the best treatment. I can stop worrying as they are getting the best attention that they can. Being able to look at situations knowing that the best action is being taken is the best way forward with family. Remember, even though you might feel that someone should be doing something differently, they might not believe the same. Remember to be mindful of the situation as well as working to remove your own worry. Even talking to a family member can help!
What are you worrying about? What will you do right now to set yourself free?
