I know that planning can be met with some resistance, but I really swear by planning for a better future because you have a clear idea of what you are aiming for and some clear steps on what you need to do to get there.  No it may not be a quick fix to getting you to where you want to be, but it will definitely get you there miles quicker than if you just wish and want for something.

Planning

I know personally from my past life that I just couldn’t get my head around planning.  It seemed so boring and far from my hedonistic lifestyle that I believed was the way forward.  That was until I realised that I want really getting anywhere. I was kind of just sitting back waiting for things to happen for me.  (Picture this: my parents took me to art college to enroll me because I wasn’t doing anything and had no idea what I wanted to do with my life.  I applied for any old uni at the last minute before the deadline and spent my time floating around different jobs because I wanted to earn some money to have freedom, but didn’t really feel right anywhere)

And that was when I realised that planning had to be better than what I was doing.

Yes, I had dreams and wishes, things that I wanted and aspired for but they were just so far away that it seemed that I would never get to them.

I suddenly decided to work out what I actually wanted from and in life.  I scribbled away and added all manner of things fro material things to feelings, to experiences and EVERYTHING in between.  It was epic to say the least!  But from there I was able to narrow it down, pull it apart and really focus on what it was that I wanted and eventually with more work, HOW I was going to go about getting it.

Don’t get me wrong, there are some things that are still work in progress and a long way away from where I am right now and some of them changed completely or even dropped off my list, but I have the chance to review these things regularly to help me keep on the right path.

It is all to easy to get distracted by shiny new things and by the things that you think you should be doing (that is a whole other story!) that to make yourself happy and to live a life that fulfills you and meets your needs and dreams you have to keep a focus on it.
