It is true that to be happy you have to make the most of where you are right now. Being able to do that helps you to have an open and positive focus on the things that you want to achieve and do that fulfill you and make things even better.
Just this morning, I work up with the light shining through the window, a soft warm hand holding mine and the sound of purring filling my ears. It was all I could do to be grateful for the things that I have and where I am right now in my life. Don’t get me wrong, things are far from perfect. We have a poorly boiler, the roof isn’t great and we would love to live somewhere else, but that is something that we are working on.
The thing is, if we focused on the things that we didn’t like, the things that we wanted to change, the things that make things not so great then we would lose sight of the things that we have. Things that bring us joy already and the things that give us the power to actually make the changes and do the saving and make the plans that will take us to somewhere new.
Have you ever woken up in the morning, heard the rain falling outside and just thought about how horrible the day is, only to get up and realise that yes, it is a horrible day when things go wrong from the outset – stubbing your toe getting out of bed, spilling the water as you pour your coffee and dropping your toothbrush in the loo.
When you get up and immediately look for things to go wrong, you will find them. You are setting yourself up to see the bad in the day and these thoughts will take up the space in your mind that would normally be open to new things and for making plans and change.
My challenge for you today is to wake up and before heading into the bad things, take a moment to just notice things. Be grateful for the things that you have and realise that there is so much good in your life (even during the darkest times – I found this technique very useful when I was battling depression and anxiety) It is with this kind of outlook that you can make the most of where you are. Enjoy the good things, weather the storms and be grateful for the moments that you do have. It will help you to find energy and power to plan and move forwards.
When you have done your gratitude, share three of the to things in the comments below:
Here’s to making the most of things and being grateful for them too!
Grateful for you being here with me,
