Do you know those people who just seem to have it so together in the mornings while you’re running around, one sock on, your jumper half way up and your lunch nowhere near ready to be packed?

Today, I will share with you 5 ways to start the day on a high.

Seriously, I used to be all over the place when I’d be wanting to get ready in the morning, I would discover that everything I was looking for was hidden from me, I was eluded by how fast time could travel when I needed to be somewhere and how the cats would play up, I would be SO clumsy and I would find that what stared out as a good morning could result in my spilling my tea, forgetting half the things that I needed and setting out into the day in a bit of a mood.

If that sounds familiar, here are 5 ways to start the day on a high – and they’re not that difficult to do either!

5 ways to start the day on a high

1. Preparation

Seriously, even just a little bit of preparation can go a long way to making the start of the day go swimmingly.  When we wake up, it does take a little while to adjust so having things in place to help you get to work is a great way to start.

Think about your morning routine and the things that you need to do or take with you for the day.  Get them ready the night before so that they are in your bag, set aside ready to wear or ready to use.

For example, before I go to bed, I will fill the kettle with water, place the tea bags in the cups, get the cat bowls and food ready and put our clean underwear and clothes in the bathroom ready.  I will then write a list of the things that I need to do the next day and place it on my desk so that everything is easy for the morning for me to get started.  I  also place the lunch boxes on the counter and get the smoothie ingredients together.

you’ll be surprised at how much time it saves you in the morning too, so you get more time to enjoy your brew and wake up relaxed.

2. Gratitude

Rather than waking up cursing the alarm, grumbling about the grey weather or that your other half snored through the night and stole all the duvet wake up and take a moment to be grateful for the things that you have.

Gratitude will quickly trigger feel good emotions and will set you in a good mood to look for more throughout the day.  Taking a little bit of time to think of them and to notice them also gives you just that little bit longer to adjust to being awake, plus when you’re in a good mood, getting up is a whole lot easier.

All you have to do to start with is think of five things that you are grateful for.

3. Practice Mindfulness

There is no time like the present (if you pardon the pun!) to practice a bit of mindfulness.  While you are brushing your teeth, showering or drying your hair, take the time to be truly present in the actions that you are taking, how your body moves, what you feel, smell, see and taste (don’t eat you shampoo!) and really feel where you are.  This is not only relaxing, but helps you to become more aware of yourself and your surroundings which is a great way to ensure not only the start of the day is good, but the rest of it too.

4. Leave the tech alone!

This one is an important one in my honest opinion.  When we ge up it is so easy to reach for our smart phones o check what has been going on over night and get stuck right into the day, but that does us no good because even before we’ve started, our minds are racing and whirling.

Leave the tech along and get ready without it.  Of course you can have some music or the radio on, but resist from getting involved with social media, emails and definitely stay away from work emails!

Not only will it help you to create boundaries between ‘me time;’ and work time, it will free up time by removing the procrastination and distraction that our technology brings with it.

5. Choose to have a good day

…and plan some goodness into it.  When we go out expecting to have a bad day we will fin that it will be.  When we go out choosing to have a good day, we will either find it or create it.

Know that you will be doing good work, you will be doing your best (and actually do DO your best) and plan in some treats, like a walk at lunchtime, a class or chat on your way home or even some time alone to read a book or just contemplate the world around you. Whatever makes you feel god can be planned in there to make sure you definitely have something to smile about at the end of the day.

So there you have it.  5 ways to start the day on a high that not only make for a great start but also creates free time, enjoyable experiences and a happy start to your day.

Let me know how you get on and whether you have an tips too – you never know, they might even make into the next five!

Here’s to a great day!

Xx
